IMPROVE PUMP EFFICIENCY

An inefficient pump will increase the overall life cycle cost of a system. It can also lead to increased energy costs and CO2 emissions. One method to improve pump efficiency is as simple as replacing existing components with components made from Vespel® CR-6100 and reducing the running clearance.

What is Vespel® CR-6100?

Made from Teflon® PFA resin and long carbon fibers, Vespel® CR-6100 is a composite material that can be machined into a virtually unlimited range of shapes. Vespel® CR-6100 offers several unique features, including the capacity to handle temperatures from -238 F to 500 F (-200 C to 260 C), chemical compatibility with most fluids and a lower thermal expansion coefficient than carbon steel. Vespel® CR-6100 is also easy to machine and install, so you can perform the upgrade in your own shop. Vespel® CR-6100 can be made into wear rings, throttle bushings and inter-stage rings for pumps.

Vespel® CR-6100 wear rings and throttle bushings with reduced clearance increase pump efficiency.

Improve Pump Efficiency with Vespel® CR-6100

The wear parts in a pump have a significant impact on pump efficiency. These are the parts that separate high-pressure areas from low-pressure areas in the pump. Leakage across this interface diminishes pump efficiency. Vespel® CR-6100 minimizes the risk of pump seizure and allows you to reduce the clearance at these components, generally to 50% below the original design value. The reduction in clearance reduces the leakage across these components and increases the pump efficiency.

What to do when Improving Pump Efficiency with Vespel CR-6100:

  • Replace the stationary wear components with Vespel® CR-6100
  • Continue using metal rotating wear components
  • Reduce the wear ring clearance to 50% of the API recommended minimum

Pump Efficiency Benefits with Vespel® CR-6100

  • Increased pump efficiency
  • Lower power consumption at same operating point
  • Potential for increased throughput if system allows
  • Reduced CO2 emissions
  • Improved rotor stability
  • Lower vibrations
