Use Vespel® CR-6100 to minimize the risk of pump seizure
When pumps are built with metal wear rings for their stationary and rotating components, there is an inherent risk of pump seizure. Changing the stationary components to Vespel® CR-6100 composite material will eliminate the metal-to-metal contact points in the pump and dramatically reduce pump seizure risk.
What is Vespel® CR-6100?
Vespel® CR-6100 is a unique composite material that can be machined into nearly any shape. Made from Teflon® PFA resin and long carbon fibers, Vespel® CR-6100 exhibits a number of useful characteristics that help minimize pump seizure.
- Wide temperature range: -238° to 500°F (-200° to 260°C)
- Near-universal chemical compatibility
- Lower thermal expansion coefficient than carbon steel
Vespel® CR-6100 can be made into wear rings, throttle bushings, and inter-stage rings for pumps. The material is also easy to machine and install, making it possible for you to perform equipment upgrades right in your own shop.
Eliminate Pump Seizure with Vespel® CR-6100
Contact between metal wear rings generates extreme friction and heat that can cause galling and make your pump seize. The low friction and dimensional stability of Vespel® CR-6100 help reduce or eliminate pump seizure.
Installing Vespel® CR-6100 wear rings can also minimize the impact of run-dry conditions and total pump failure.
What to do: Using Vespel CR-6100 to Eliminate Pump Seizures:
- Replace stationary wear components with Vespel® CR-6100
- Continue using metal rotating wear components
- Eliminate all metal-to-metal interfaces within the pump and replace them with metal-to-Vespel® CR-6100 interfaces
- To achieve additional rotor stability and efficiency gains, reduce wear ring clearance to 50% of the API recommended minimum
